The fees outlined herein are payable to The Paso Robles Area Historical Society for permission to publish materials owned by the Historical Society.  The granting of permission to use material for publication does not absolve the publisher from securing permission from the copyright owners and payment of such additional fees as the copyright owners may require if The Paso Robles Area Historical Society does not own the copyright or if the material is not in the public domain.

Users assume responsibility for questions of copyright and invasion of privacy that may arise from publication of PRAHS materials.  The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, U.S. Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyright material.  Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction.  One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship or research.”  If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement.  This Historical Society reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgement, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of the copyright law.
